Twelve-year-old Maddie plans for a secret sleepover with her two best friends. Unfortunately, they don't come so she decides to spend the night alone in the sleepover place. 

But she ends up waking up to a nightmare. Everyone is mysteriously evacuated from the town. She is abandoned and alone.

She has no one to rely on, no power, no phones that work, or any way of communication. Her only companions are a Rottweiler named George and all the books she can read. Beginning with a rough start, Maddie learns clever ways to survive in a place that has been deserted and forgotten.

As the months pass, she escapes many things like natural disasters, wild animals, and even fire. Can Maddie’s stubborn will to survive  carry her through the most frightening experience of her life, alone?
